Entry to Ft. Myer
(updated 9/22/2025)
When coming to Ft. Myer for club meetings, base security and access is a bit onerous for some of our members.
There are several ways you'll be allowed to enter.
REAL ID Required
Ft. Myer has implemented a REAL ID Requirement (click for the full explanation on their website). Briefly:
- All occupants of a vehicle should be prepared to present a REAL ID at the security checkpoint.
- Any occupant who does not have a REAL ID-compliant state driver’s license will need to provide a second form of identification. We suggest you check Ft. Myer's website for the list of acceptable ID. Your vehicle may need to be searched, and you'll need to be vetted through their security system before being allowed entry. This may take some time, so we suggest that you arrive at the base a bit early.
Military ID or Common Access Card (CAC)
All Department of Defense-issued identification cards to include a Common Access Card will be accepted for entry. Those already entered into the system with a valid access pass, or possessing a Common Access Card (CAC), Military ID (active duty, retired, or dependent), may enter as normal.
One-Day Pass
You can apply for temporary/one-day access online at this website:
- Select Other and indicate Pentagon Ski Club Meeting as your Reason for Visit
- If approved, you'll receive a text notification on your phone that links to your ID credential.
- Your application must normally be submitted at least four days in advance of your visit, but might be approved almost instantaneously depending on your footprint in various online systems.
VCC Operating Hours: Ft. Myer's Visitor Control Center has shortened their hours:
- They were previously open 0600-1700 M-F and 1000-1500 Saturday
- Their current hours (as of September 2025) are 0700-1530 Mon-Fri ONLY
Long-Term/Annual Pass
With sponsorship from our contact at Patton Hall, the VCC may grant you long-term (1-year) access to the base. They are no longer issuing physical visitor passes, but will instead, will link your access approval to your REAL ID. Then they will simply scan your REAL ID at the gate. A couple important notes:
- When you go to the VCC to apply for long-term access: If your state driver's license is not REAL ID compliant, they will link to it, but you will still need to provide your second form of identification (discussed above) each time you enter.
- You must take it upon yourself to remember when your access approval will expire. We suggest you make a note on your calendar.
We anticipate offering opportunities for long-term sponsorship on a quarterly basis, in conjunction with our September, December, and March club meetings, and our July picnic. If you want to apply for a pass but can't come to the pending meeting, there's an option for that when you register for the meeting.
