Welcome to the Pentagon Ski Club!

Trips!
(and Meetings)

Scroll down to see our offerings!  In addition to our ski trips, our several non-skiing vacation trips are also available for registration/signups.

Epic & Ikon Passes:  Most of our trips will be going to resorts that honor one of the multi-resort season passes.  You may purchase passes directly from the suppliers, but several of our our tour operators have promotions offering discounts or rebates in conjunction the trips you might take with the club.  Go to our Epic & Ikon Pass page to see the offers.  You may wish to consider purchasing your passes through them.  The exceptions are Military Epic passes and military discounts on Ikon passes, which are only available from the suppliers.

You should consider purchasing passes early-on as the costs typically increase before the Memorial Day holiday and periodically as winter gets closer.   Season pass sales are likely to end sometime in late fall.

Blue Ridge Ski Council:  Beginning August 1, 2023, registration for our 2024 ski trips was opened to members of other ski clubs that are members of the Blue Ridge Ski Council through the "sanctioning" process.  Hint:  To register for a trip you must first "join" the PSC as a no-cost BRSC member and populate your membership profile.

Tips for All Trips

Trip Insurance:  Be sure to review our Trip Insurance page before signing up for a trip, and consider whether to purchase cancellation insurance.  Note that the cancel for any reason option requires that you pay the premium within 14 days of paying your initial deposit on a trip.  The 14-day purchase deadline also applies in order to waive the pre-existing medical condition exclusion.

Signup/Registration Tips:  Please take a moment to read the Trip Signup/Registration Tips.  Each individual must be logged-in with their PSC credentials (email address & password) in order to register (sign up) for a trip.  Before signing up, please take a moment to review your profile including your emergency contact information and (if you're thinking of a trip to Canada or Europe) your passport information.  Make sure your first and middle names exactly match your passport (or whatever ID you'll fly with) so your ticket gets issued correctly.  Then click on the trip's Register button if you're ready to sign up!  Your personal information will be pulled from your profile, and then you will need to select options specific to each trip, for example, what type of lodging you prefer (double occupancy or a single room at extra cost) and what type of lift ticket you want.

Important If you are registering someone other than yourself, you must log out of your own account and then log in with their credentials.  If you skip this step and register them while signed into your own account, their profile information won't convey into their signup record.  This is necessary even with family (bundle) memberships where you are the bundle administrator.

Wait-Listed Trips:  Click on the button to Join wait list and we may be able to confirm you on the trip if we have a cancellation, after confirming that you still want to go.  We're also sometimes able to expand a trip to accommodate additional skiers.

Trip Invoice & Initial Deposit:  An invoice will be generated for each trip you've registered for.  Each trip includes a payment table listing an initial deposit, one or more interim payments, and a final payment date.  You must pay the initial deposit, and any subsequent interim payments that have or are about to come due, to secure your place on the trip.  Your registration is not confirmed until we receive and acknowledge your deposit.  Payments can be made online with a credit card, or by check.  We can also accept credit card payments at club meetings.

Optional 4-Night post-ski extension to the Italian Riviera

    $625

Returns to the U.S. Wednesday, March 27

Engelberg has 25 lifts within its 198 acres of terrain with 6,135 ft of vertical. Surrounded by impressive high peaks over 9,000 feet and the nearly 10,000 foot high Titlis glacier; this picturesque town’s situation in a valley makes for world-class panoramic views. ‘Welcome to Heaven!’ is Engelberg’s English slogan — appropriate enough for a ski resort whose name translates literally as ‘Mountain of the Angels’.  The village was founded centuries ago by Benedictine monks, and the monastery still dominates one end of town and functions as a school today.

Our trip includes seven nights in the Hotel Terrace with daily breakfasts and dinners, a 6-day lift ticket (!), round-trip air (details below), and ground transfers.

    Hotel Terrace

Whether you're in search of your next sporting challenge or simply want to relax and have a good time, Hotel Terrace has it covered. The hotel is just a short lift ride from the village centre and the bus stop for the free ski shuttle to the cable car station.  Our rooms are their "comfort" rooms and are equipped with extra-long beds, a flat screen tv, and wi-fi.

There's nothing like a day out in the snow to work up an appetite. At Hotel Terrace, our Belle Epoque restaurant serves up an array of culinary delights. And boasting the largest selection of gins in Switzerland, our Porticos Bar is the perfect place to toast the end of a great day.

Single Rooms:  Listed cost is for double occupancy.  A limited number of rooms may be available for single occupancy; request when registering and the trip leader will make an adjustment to your invoice if you can be confirmed.

Lift Tickets:   Our trip package includes a 6-day lift ticket for skiing at Titlis, Brunni and Furenalp!

      Italian Riveria Option - $625

      4-night post-skiing extension

Returns to the U.S. Wednesday, March 27th

We will have a roughly 6 hour scenic bus ride from Engelberg to the Italian Riveria.  We will spend four nights (Sat-Wed) in the 4-star Hotel Miramare with daily breakfast and a Welcome Dinner on Saturday night.  The hotel is a 15 minute walk to the train station that provides convenient access to the towns in the Cinque Terre to the south and also it is a 1 hour ride to the historic port city of Genoa to the north.  We will have ample opportunity to explore this beautiful area of the Italian coast.

      Hotel Miramare

Overlooking the Bay of Silence in Sestri Levante, Hotel Miramare is one of the most exclusive 4-star hotels of the Gulf of Tigullio.

Our flight home originates in Torino, which is about a 3-hour bus ride from the hotel.

Single Rooms:  Listed cost is for double occupancy.  A limited number of rooms may be available for single occupancy; request when registering and the trip leader will make an adjustment to your invoice if you can be confirmed.

      • The Option 1 cancellation plan provides all the benefits of the Basic Plan, but also covers you for cancelling for a number of basic reasons such as illness, injury or death to you or to your traveling companion/ roommate.  You must purchase it within 14 days of putting down your very first dollar towards the trip in order to waive the pre-existing medical condition exclusion.
      • The Option 2 "Cancel For Any Reason" (CFAR) plan provides all the benefits of the Option 1 plan, but also covers you for cancelling for any non-standard reason, or if you just don’t want to go, but you must purchase it within 14 days of putting down your very first dollar towards the trip.  If you cancel your trip for a non-standard reason, your refund will be limited to 75% of your insured trip cost.
      • If you upgrade your coverage with either option through Myra, prior to making your final payment on the trip, we will credit your trip invoice with the $50 cost of the club-provided Basic Plan.

      • An Ikon Base Pass or Base Plus Pass give you 5 days at at Revelstoke

Ikon Passes must be individually purchased (not through the club).  You may purchase Ikon Passes directly from Ikon, but we suggest that you visit our Epic & Ikon Pass page to explore the promotional offers that may be available from our tour operators.

If you'll be using an Ikon Pass, we must provide your pass number to the resort so that it counts towards our group lift ticket minimum purchase requirements.  Please enter your Ikon Pass number into your membership profile before registering for the trip, or provide it to the trip leader if you purchase (or renew) your pass subsequent to signing up.

      General Membership Meeting

      Tuesday, April 9th

      7:00 pm

      Register To Attend

by Monday, Apr 1st, if you want a long-term pass (see below)

Our April meeting will be on Tuesday, April 9th, 7:00 pm at Ft. Myer's Patton Hall (same location as always).  The evening will feature our annual campaign in support of Move United (nee Disabled Sports USA), which provides adaptive sports opportunities for people with disabilities to develop independence, confidence and fitness.

The evening will also feature our annual Council election (more below) and a preview of next-winter's trips.

Our complimentary menu (to be confirmed) will include honey glazed ham, whole poached salmon, mixed green salad, pasta salad, and peach cobbler.  A cash bar will be available for the drinks of your choice.

      Council Election!

Our annual election of members to the club's leadership Council will take place at the meeting.  The slate of candidates (which we announced in a January email blast) is comprised of the three incumbent members with expiring terms – Bob Maynes, Tom Gallagher, and Susie Pumphrey.  We will ask for a vote of acclimation to confirm these three members to serve new three-year terms.

      Vax Required

We're continuing to require Covid-19 vaccinations for club meetings, as well as for club trips.  This is for everyone's safety and comfort level.  We will not be asking for proof of vaccination, but please do not register for or attend the meeting (or sign up for a trip) unless you are fully vaccinated.  Booster shots are of course also recommended and encouraged.

      Registration Required

We're asking everyone to register to attend.  This will allow us to adjust the catering, and to offer another opportunity for you to apply for a long-term (1-year) Ft. Myer Visitor Pass (see below). You must register by Monday, April 1st, to be sponsored for a long-term pass.

If you need to apply for or renew a pass, but can't actually come to the meeting, there's an option for that:  Register for the meeting and select the option that you need a pass but won't be at the meeting.

      Bringing a Guest?

If you plan to come to the meeting with someone else, there are two ways to let us know:

      • If your companion is a club member in their own right, they can log in with their credentials and register for the meeting much as they would do if signing up for a trip.
      • Whether your companion is a club member or not, you can simply include them in your own meeting registration by clicking on the Add guest button before submitting your registration.

      If Your Plans Change

If your plans change and you can no longer attend, please let us know (ideally by Monday, April 1st) so we can adjust our catering order.  You may do this by:

      • Calling (301-579-2749) or emailing Dave Olsen
      • Cancelling your registration yourself:
        • log into your account
        • click on your name at the top
        • click on My Event Registrations
        • click on your meeting registration
        • click on the Already registered link
        • click on the Cancel registration button
      Ft. Myer Entry Passes

You may recall that we offered an opportunity, when signing up for last-summer's picnic (and for several previous monthly meetings), to be sponsored for obtaining a long-term (1-year) Ft. Myer visitor pass.  We're able to offer that opportunity on a quarterly basis, so here's another chance!   Register for the meeting by Monday, April 1st, indicate your desire for a pass, and we'll include you on the list that we'll send to Ft. Myer to request their sponsorship.  Read below for the details on how the process will work.

We anticipate the next opportunity for long-term pass sponsorship to be in conjunction with our planned July 13th, 2024 picnic.  If you have a pass that hasn't yet expired but will expire before the picnic, go ahead and request sponsorship now, then go to the VCC once your pass has or is about to expire and they should have your name from the April meeting list.

      Entry to Ft. Myer

Please take a moment to review our Entry to Ft. Myer page.  There are several ways you'll be allowed to enter:

      • Passengers:  Firstly, be aware that drivers won't necessarily be allowed to vouch for their passengers.  Although a photo ID like a driver's license might sometimes be accepted, passengers without an Automated Installation Entry (AIE) Pass (see below) or one of the other types of ID mentioned below might need to complete a Installation Access Request Form and pass the vetting process to enter the base.
      • With Suitable ID:  If you have an active duty or retired military ID, or a DoD-issued Common Access Card (CAC) (and possibly several other types of government-issued ID), you should be able to enter the base without screening.
      • Without a Pass:  If you arrive for a club meeting outside of Visitor Control Center (VCC) hours (see below) and without suitable ID, your vehicle will be searched and you'll need to be vetted through their security system before being allowed entry.  This may take some time, so we suggest that you arrive at the base early.
      • One-Day Pass:  You can apply for a one-day pass online at this website (click on the link).  You can then show the pass on your phone to gain entry.  However, application must be submitted at least four days in advance of your visit.  The process time may depend on your footprint in various online systems, and you may need to go to the VCC to have your photo taken. That said, your application might be approved almost instantaneously if you've previously been approved for an AIE Pass.
      • 60-Day Pass:  You may apply for a 60-day pass at the Visitor Control Center, located just inside the main gate.  The VCC is open 6am-5pm Mon-Fri and 10am-3pm Saturdays.  You should be able to obtain a 60-day Automated Installation Entry (AIE) Pass right on the spot.
You will need to complete an access application and be vetted through their security system.  To help speed the process, we suggest that you complete the Fort Myer Installation Access Request Form ahead of your visit and bring it with you.
      • Long-Term/Annual Pass:  With sponsorship by Patton Hall, you may be able to get an AIE Pass good for as long as a year.  Here's how it should work:
        • Register for the meeting by Monday, April 1st, and indicate your desire to obtain a long-term pass.
        • We'll then ask our contact at Patton Hall to sponsor you for a pass.
        • We'll send you an email (on April 2nd or soon after) confirming that your name has been forwarded, and that you can go to the VCC to apply for your pass.
        • Go to Ft. Myer during normal VCC hours (6am-5pm Mon-Fri and 10am-3pm Saturdays) sometime before the meeting.
        • We suggest you go to the VCC well before the meeting to avoid slamming them that afternoon.
        • When you arrive at the VCC, tell them that you're part of the Pentagon Ski Club group that is being sponsored by Ms. Hollo at Patton Hall.  They'll have pre-printed Installation Access Request Forms with Ms. Hollo's sponsorship.  All you'll need to do is present your driver's license and complete the form with your DOB and SSN.
        • If the process works as before, and assuming you pass their vetting process, you should be able to get a year-long pass during your visit to the VCC.

Join the Pentagon Ski Club on a Vermont Bicycle Tour (VBT) to

the Black Forest region of Switzerland, Germany, and France.

Experience a rich blend of French and German cultures as you criss cross borders and ride through quaint Alsatian towns, pause for wine tastings along the legendary Route des Vins, and wind along the canals of Colmar’s “Little Venice.” Pedal along well-marked bike routes, quiet country roads, and through rural paths open only to cyclists and farmers. Stroll cobbled pedestrian streets, passing charming half-timbered facades adorned with overflowing flower boxes, and perhaps pausing to bite into the famous Black Forest cake of a skilled pastry chef. Step back in time and enjoy a guided tour of 2,000-year-old Roman ruins in the spa town of Badenweiler. Throughout your adventure, stunning mountain ranges form the backdrop to your picturesque bike routes through France, Germany, and Switzerland.

      • Immerse yourself in the dual French and German culture of Alsace and learn about the region’s history as a hotly contested territory.

Trip Insurance:   Emergency medical, evacuation & repatriation insurance (not cancellation insurance) is included with your trip.  This is not cancellation coverage and will not provide any relief if you have to cancel from the trip before it begins, whether for medical or other reasons.  You may upgrade the coverage of this Basic Plan to include cancellation insurance by clicking on this link.  It will take you to a flyer describing the Basic Plan and the upgrade options available through Myra Altschuler of Travel Protectors LLC:

        • If you upgrade your coverage with either option through Myra, the trip leader will credit you with the $50 cost of the club-provided Basic Plan.  Disbursement of funds is at the discretion of the trip leader and may be done prior to, during, or after the trip.  If you cancel from the trip there will be no credit given.
        • If you purchase your own travel insurance, which includes emergency medical, evacuation & repatriation coverage, the trip leader will credit you with the $50 cost of the club-provided Basic Plan.  You must present your policy to the trip leader to receive the credit.  Disbursement of funds is at the discretion of the trip leader and may be done prior to, during, or after the trip.  If you cancel from the trip there will be no credit given.
        • OAT also offers CFAR insurance.
